Introducing Our Clinical Advisor, Dr Gary Mendoza

Men's wellness is a category full of big claims and little accountability. We've taken a different step — appointing a named Registered Nutritionist and PhD under a disclosed advisory relationship to review our products, claims and content.

If you've spent any time looking at men's supplements, you'll know the category has a credibility problem. Bold promises, invented science, and very little independent accountability. From the day we started VitaEdge, our answer to that has been simple: be honest, show our working, and don't make a claim we can't stand behind.

Today we're taking that commitment a step further. We're delighted to announce that Dr Gary Mendoza has joined VitaEdge Wellness as our Clinical Advisor.

Who is Dr Gary Mendoza

Gary is a UK Registered Nutritionist (RNutr) and academic who specialises in male nutrition, weight management and sports nutrition. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Applied Human Nutrition and was awarded his PhD by the University of Wales for doctoral research into the treatment of overweight and obese men — work that speaks directly to our audience.

He has lectured in sports and exercise nutrition at Bath Spa University, Cardiff Metropolitan University and Massey University in New Zealand. Earlier in his career he served as Academy Nutritionist at Nottingham Forest Football Club and has worked with elite athletes across a range of professional sports. Today he also works as a Health & Lifestyle coach for Liva Healthcare on the National Diabetes Prevention Programme.

What his role actually involves

We want to be precise about this, because the word "advisor" gets used loosely in our industry. Gary is engaged by VitaEdge under a written Clinical Advisor agreement that includes in-kind product supply and may include compensation for specific work. He reviews our product pages and their health-related claims, health-related long-form content, and new products before launch. The agreement preserves his professional judgment and his right to reject any claim or wording he cannot substantiate.

Crucially, his independence is built into our agreement. He is free to tell us when something isn't right, and free to decline to put his name to any claim or wording he can't professionally substantiate. That's the whole point — oversight only means something if the person doing it can say no.

You can read more about Gary and exactly what his oversight covers on our Clinical Advisory page.

Why this matters to you

Appointing a named Clinical Advisor doesn't change what's in our capsules. What it changes is the accountability behind what we tell you about them. Having a qualified, publicly verifiable professional review our work under a transparent commercial relationship is a standard we want to hold ourselves to — and one we think more of this industry should.

This is the beginning of that work, not the end of it. As Gary completes his reviews, you'll see his involvement reflected across the site over the coming months.
